Blinds vs Shutters: Costs And Design

There are two popular window coverings to choose from to transform your home into an effortlessly stylish living area with added privacy and sunlight control. If you aren’t sure exactly which one you want, we are here to settle the debate. Which is better? Blinds or shutters?

They both have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. The main difference being  how they are arranged or installed on a window. Usually, blinds are installed inside or above the window opening, while the shutters are integrated into the window frame itself.    

Blinds

Blinds are as beautiful as they are aesthetically pleasing for any home style. They are strong, durable and low maintenance providing good insulation, and good control of light and ventilation. The slats can be opened to let in some light and air or closed to omit sunlight and drafts. 

Shutters

Shutters are a solid and stable window covering usually made of horizontal styles that can be opened and closed. Our shutters have the look and feel of wood with several major advantages. Made from dense polymer foam, Thermalite is a solid, non-toxic synthetic material. Being 100% made from renewable synthetic material, no natural resources are destroyed in the manufacturing process. They are also water resistant and fire retardant offering better insulation than alternative materials.

Costs

Shutters can be more expensive than blinds but can offer a neater finish and can last up to 25 years. Shutters do not require tightening or adjusting overtime so need less maintenance than blinds. Blinds though are cheaper and easier to adjust and manoeuvre in day to day life, especially if you are constantly adjusting them at home. Blinds can last up to 10 years but may experience more wear and tear than the tougher shutters. Both have an upfront cost but very little maintenance costs and will save you money on your energy bills through insulation.
